Posmā no Lēnistes līdz Kavastu Mežtaka izlokās cauri atklātām ainavām un jauktiem mežiem. Uz austrumiem no Mežtakas plešas lielākā Igaunijas dabas lieguma zona Peipsivēre, kas aptver Ahjas upes mitrāju, Emajegi upes lejteci un Kosas (Koosa) upi līdz Pīrisāres (Piirissaar) salai Peipusa ezerā (Pepsi järv).

From Leniste to Kavastu, the Mežtaka meanders through open landscapes and mixed forests. To the east of Meztak extends Estonia’s largest nature conservation area, the Peipsivere, which covers the wetlands of the Ahya River, the lower Emajegi River and the Koosa River to Piirissaar Island in Lake Peipus (Pepsi järv).
