Sakala Road hiking trail (12 km)

This 12 km trail is intended for a longer hike. There are nice campfire sites along the trail for camping and also Saeveski forest hut, where hikers can find shelter in bad weather. The trail can be completed on foot and by bicycle. When planning the hike, it is reasonable to organise transport at the other end of the trail. Different events are organised on the trail. The longest tradition is the Sakala Road Hiking Day, which is held in March.
The trail runs along forest paths, which were used by C. R. Jakobson, when he went from his home at Kurgja through Vanaõue to Viljandi, to work at the editor’s office of the “Sakala” newspaper.
The trail is marked with yellow and red stripes on wooden posts. Along the hiking trail one can find the Mullasamba and Maltsaare recreation sites, Kabelimäe campfire site, Luite campfire site with camping area and the Saeveski forest keeper’s place on the bank of the Saarjõgi River.
