Vīsraga taka

Vīsrags nature trail has been created in the nature reserve "Burtnieki lake meadows". It covers a narrow band on the southern and eastern shores of the lake with an area of 432 ha and is designed to preserve rare bird species and floodplain meadows.

The Vīsrags nature trail takes about 45 minutes. It starts at the Silver Gate of Burtnieki Manor Park, then leads through the park to the Burtnieki Lake and Ēķinupe floodplain meadows, which are an internationally important nesting place for protected birds.

One of the stopping points of the trail is the observation tower, from which the floodplain meadows of Ēķinupe and the south-eastern shore of the lake with the pointed tower of Burtnieki Church can be well seen. On the way back, the trail winds along the shores of the lake past the ruins of the Livonian Order castle, flooded ponds and the lake beach.

We remind you that the territory of this nature is intended for the protection of rare natural values, therefore we invite you to treat the surroundings with special care. Please move only along the existing trail and be sure not to leave any rubbish behind. By observing the surroundings carefully and behaving quietly, you are more likely to see undisturbed natural events.
