The Dinaburg trail initially descends and then, after a rapid ascent, leads to the steep bank of the Daugava, where a 25 m high Naujene (Vecpils) castle mound rises, surrounded by ravines, which is considered to be the founding place of Daugavpils. The castle ruins have been preserved, with a unique open-air model of Dinaburg Castle. The object is located in the Daugava Loop Nature Park.
The trail offers a great opportunity to get acquainted with the environment of knights - bridges, ravines, springs, steep slopes, narrow paths, a real medieval spirit and glorious nature. There has been an ancient settlement at the foot of the castle mound. On the way back, crossing the bridge, you will reach the site of the former Vecpils cemetery, which is marked by three white crosses.
The trail is about 1 km long. In 2016, the trail was renovated with a new viewing platform, wooden stairs, footbridges and a bridge.
